Orla Clancy • She/her • Creator of “All time, everywhere, anyone”
Born in 1968, Orla Clancy grew up in rural County Tipperary, in a home that valued books and
reading. Later, she studied languages at UCD and graduated with a BA.
She went on to study life drawing and portraiture in Groningen, the Netherlands, before relocating to County Limerick with husband Dolf Patijn in 2000. There, Orla attended LSAD (TÚS), graduating in 2004.
Orla creates landscape works and “Peoplescapes”: depictions of random people doing ordinary
everyday things. Her subjects are complete strangers in everyday settings, their actions recorded in
quick sketches or snapshot photography. Her Peoplescape works are deceptively simple scenes
where the viewer’s own epistemology and life experience plays a significant part in their reading of
the work. Regarding Issue X’s theme “Blood”, Orla writes:
We are all connected by blood. We may have different blood types, different hair, different skin colour, different talents and skills and motivation, but we all have blood. Blood is the connection.
Everyone’s blood runs red.
