Cora Devlin • She/her • Creator of “Sophia”
Cora Devlin is a visual artist and printmaker based between Dublin and Wexford.
She is a 2025 NCAD graduate, having completed her degree in Fine Art Print and Critical Cultures. Cora’s practice examines the long-standing negative effects that biblical stories have had on the treatment of women in modern society. She actively explores this notion through a contemporary lens, drawing on modern methods of performance and gender subversion. Through close engagement with Judith Butler’s theory on gender performativity, she seeks to reimagine these traditional Christian narratives and present them in new feminist formations. Cora primarily engages with the mediums of performance-to-camera, costuming and installation within her practice.
Regarding Issue X’s theme “Blood”, Cora writes:
“Within my work, Blood is a symbol of femininity and highlights the power and unheard voices of women.”
Featured in Issue X:
Sophia

On her Instagram, Cora details the process behind Sophia:
“A series of works that I made while researching the religious figure of Sophia, who is the female personification of wisdom. By taking small snippets of information from religious scripture describing her, I constructed my imagery centring blood and the colour red as integral elements”.
