Connor Gray • He/him • Creator of “Redbreast”
Connor Gray is an artist based in Tallaght, Dublin and is a graduate of UCD’s Creative Writing course. A writer foremost, he nonetheless engages in sketching, painting, and photography. His pictures often star animals both wild and domestic, and highlight man-made structures as they supersede or succumb to nature.
We asked Connor how his piece relates to Issue X’s theme, Blood. In response, he writes:
“Redbreast depicts a small creature with a short lifespan standing on a table. The robin tilts its head over an offering of moss, inviting the viewer to search for a soul in its inquisitive gaze. A round body and spindly legs suggest fullness and fragility in equal measure. Whoever invented the myth about the bird’s feathers being dyed with the blood of Christ must have had a reason for doing so.”
