I find myself drawn to writing poetry which reflects my experiences — the emotional turmoil that is existence. I wrote “How to Meet my Mother” as a reflection upon the worries that young queer people like me can have about our families and how to deal with the different realities that we and our parents have lived through. “Showers Sting” is a poem about the psychological pain that struggling with self-harm causes alongside the physical.
