Chloe Fraher is a Limerick poet with a great interest in human relationships and the grotesque, which she combines to explore the theme Blood as the source for unlikely connections. Whether this be family members or strangers in a public bathroom, the figurative and literal presence of blood leads to moments of understanding and appreciation between extremely different people.
Regarding Blood, the theme of Issue X, Chole writes: ‘In “Tarot-Hoodie” I explore familial relationships, but the blood-relation is made insignificant in the face of real understanding between two people represented by the titular gift. In “The Test” I wanted to take this further as we get a glimpse into the life of a stranger, and the speaker must overcome their initial judgment to feel a connection with someone in a vastly different situation. Blood didn’t make these connections but marked their beginnings.’
